About lung cancer

When someone is diagnosed with lung cancer, they usually face the question, “Did you smoke?” The answer very often defines the level of support and care they will receive throughout the disease.

Why? Simply, because the question is rooted in lung cancer Stigma. The Stigma is spreading, as lung cancer is described as the “smoker’s disease”.

Anyone with lungs can get lung cancer.

The Stigma implies that some people have brought the disease on themselves.  All without exception deserve the same respect, the same compassion, the same care.

“Every person is special.
Every patient is unique.”

Cynthia Mikkelsen, Caregiver

We drop the Stigma. We stand on facts.

Lung cancer is the number one cause of cancer death in Greece. Almost 9,000 Greeks are diagnosed every year. The Stigma of lung cancer adds an extra burden to an already unbearable situation for patients, caregivers and family members.

Survival rates have barely improved in decades, with lung cancer patients having a low 5-year life expectancy (around 20%), compared to other more common cancers (breast, colorectal and prostate).

Every year, we lose over 7,600 Greeks to lung cancer – which means 21 families are forced to say goodbye to their loved ones every day. Cancer doesn’t just happen to one person. Although lung cancer is the most common and deadliest cancer, it receives the least attention in terms of awareness, screening, early diagnosis, funding and research.

We invite you to be part of this effort against the Stigma of lung cancer, so as to give people impacted by the disease the same opportunities as anyone, facing a cancer diagnosis.

Be part of this effort

You can be part of this effort by putting aside Stigma and prejudice. Let’s give everyone an equal chance against the disease. There is no time to waste when it comes to lung cancer!
